“A huge thank you for the stunning photos! We’ve had nothing but praises – amazing job! I’m sure you’ll be the talk of the season and certainly making a fab impression on new newly weds for sure. Let’s just say, you made all the married couples want their wedding photos re-done – by YOU!”
Gretchen and Rob got married in autumn at the beautiful Hundred House, which is a stunning barn in Bridgnorth in Shropshire. It was a beautiful day and even the weather played ball!
Getting ready
Gretchen got ready in the bridal suite at The Hundred House with her bridesmaids, and the atmosphere was full of excitement. Gretchen and Rob had chosen to have a late ceremony which meant they had all morning to relax and start getting ready. Due to Gretchen and Rob having a 4pm ceremony in November they decided to have a first look so that they could still have their couple portraits outside in the beautiful gardens at The Hundred House Hotel. I love shooting first looks, it’s a guaranteed way of getting both people’s reactions as they see each other in their outfits for the first time. We did Gretchen and Rob’s first look at 3pm so we had half an hour for their couple portraits before they both needed to see their registrars ahead of their ceremony. The light was absolutely perfect at this time of day. One of the reasons that I love Autumn and Winter weddings is because sunset comes a lot earlier so there’s more of a chance that we’ll be able to use it during your couple portraits. Gretchen and Rob’s couple portraits just so happened to fall during golden hour so we absolutely made the most of the remaining sunlight whilst we had it.
Civil Ceremony in the Tithe Barn
The ceremony was a legal ceremony in the barn. The Tithe barn at The Hundred House was decorated beautifully for Gretchen and Rob’s ceremony. They knew it was going to be dark when they got married so they had lots of twinkling fairy lights on the ceiling and on their copper archway. They also had lots of candles lit during their ceremony too. This worked really well with the cosy theme of their wedding, it was quite cold outside but you wouldn’t be able to tell inside the barn. During the ceremony they exchanged their wedding rings with their son right by their side. I thought this was so lovely as it was a joining together of them as a family. It was so cosy and such a personal service. After their ceremony instead of having confetti they had a sparkler exit. This worked really well with the time of year and also continued with the cosy, autumnal theme of their day.
The party
The reception was in the same room at the venue. They chose Hundred House because the food is incredible and they just fell in love with it. It was a relaxed autumnal wedding, which I absolutely loved! Autumnal weddings are so colourful. I love shooting Hundred House weddings because they’re always so relaxed. My favourite area of The Hundred House has to be the garden, it’s the perfect place for couple portraits and it’s quite hidden, I’ve been there a few times when couples haven’t even know that the garden was there!
They decorated the venue with candles and fairy lights, because it worked so well with the time of year. For dinner they served a buffet, which was absolutely delicious. A buffet is a great informal way of serving wedding food. Gretchen and Rob really wanted a relaxed day and because their ceremony was so late, they served a buffet in the evening. The first dance was a romantic slow dance, and they finished off the evening with a huge pile of doughnuts. The donuts were from Planet Doughnut in Shrewsbury and I can vouch for the fact that they were absolutely delicious! Gretchen and Rob had these instead of a wedding cake and I think it worked really well and was in keeping with their relaxed theme. The best part of the day was the sparkler exit, because it looked amazing and it was a great alternative to confetti.
The couple
Gretchen wore a Wed2B wedding dress and Rob wore a Moss Bros suit and they looked so incredible. Gretchen’s flowers were by Big Little Things and they looked amazing!
Gretchen and Rob’s wedding had such a chilled vibe and had such a fun atmosphere. Here’s their awesome Hundred House wedding!
