Apley Woods Spring Engagement Shoot – Georgie, Elliot & Harry

When Georgie and Elliot got in touch asking for an engagement shoot ahead of their wedding at The Bridal Barn this year I was over the moon. It’s no secret that I love engagement shoots, when they said they were bringing their dog Harry along too, I couldn’t have been happier! For their engagement shoot we went to Apley woods, it’s a lovely woodland in Shropshire that has lots of beautiful, different areas and it’s such a great spot for an engagement shoot. I often get asked for recommendations for where to do shoots and Apley woods is always at the top of my list, I always seem to get really lovely light here and Geogie and Elliot’s shoot was no exception!

Georgie and Elliot are getting married at the Bridal Barn in May, I love shooting weddings at the Bridal Barn, its one of my favourite venues! It’s a barn surrounded by woodland so it made sense that we’d also do their engagement shoot in a woodland setting. Elliot and Georgie brought their gorgeous wire haired Dachshund with them called Harry, if you’re thinking about having an engagement shoot and wondering if your dog’s welcome to come along the answer is an absolute YES, I always encourage dogs on engagement shoot. It doesn’t have to be an engagement shoot, it could be any aspect of life whatsoever, it’s always better with a dog!

We really lucked out on the weather for this shoot, I always love colour in my work and I was over the moon with how vibrant the greens were during their shoot, this combined with the beautiful light we had was a recipe for beauty! Whenever there’s a dog present, at an engagement shoot, wedding or family shoot, I always get photos of just the dog living their best life too. Dog’s are such a huge part of our families I think it’s really important we capture their personalities too. I know a lot of my couples would love to have their dog with them on their wedding day but it’s not always practical, including them in your engagement shoot is a great way to include them in the wedding if they won’t be there on the day.

Engagement shoots are also great to do if you’re nervous about having your photograph taken, it enables us to get to know each other a bit better before your wedding day and you’ll see being in front of the camera can I actually be, dare I say it… fun! There’s never any pressure, they’re always really relaxed and we get some lovely photos of the two of you together just before you get married.

Here’s what Georgie & Elliot said about their engagement photographs:

“Oh my gosh we LOVE them!!! Thank you so much, you have just confirmed that you are the only photographer we would have wanted at our wedding!”

If you’re thinking of having an engagement shoot I’m going to be doing an engagement session mini shoot day on Sunday 23rd April at Haughmond Hill in Shrewsbury (another beautiful woodland location!). The session will last one hour and is £200 with 30 edited images. I’ve only got a few places left so if you’d like to nab one of the spaces, drop me an email!
