The Swettenham Arms Wedding – Louise & Ash

Rustic charm meets summer elegance at The Swettenham Arms

“It was so important to us that our photographs captured the vibe of the wedding day which we hoped would be happy and relaxed! When we first saw Lisa’s photography online what really stood out to us was that every image captured a genuine, natural moment rather than feeling too formal or staged as some wedding photography does. Right from the outset Lisa responded to our emails and any questions we had really quickly which is hugely appreciated when you’ve got a lot of things to plan for a wedding! Both of us are not that comfortable in front of a camera but Lisa was so friendly which really put us at ease and made the whole thing an enjoyable experience – we smiled and laughed a lot! 🙂 and I love that it came across in the final photos.

It was so exciting getting the sneaky preview of the pictures the day after our wedding, and we couldn’t wait to see the rest! We were over the moon with the final photos and it was great to relive the day through all the moments you captured. We couldn’t quite believe how many photographs there were as Lisa were so unobtrusive on the day we didn’t notice her snapping away! The final photographs felt unique and personal to us and our day so we couldn’t ask for more.

If anyone’s thinking about hiring Lisa is photograph their wedding, do it!! You’ll get a fab service and the beautiful photographs you were hoping for. I would happily recommend Lisa because she was so professional, lovely to work with and made everything super easy.”

Louise and Ash got married in August at the awesome Swettenham Arms, which is an old 16th Century Inn in Cheshire. They had their ceremony at St John The Evangelist Church, which is the perfect setting. It was a gorgeous day and the weather was amazing!

Bridal prep

Louise got ready at her parent’s home with her bridesmaids and lots of family, and the atmosphere was absolutely electric. I arrived while Louise was mid make up and everyone was in high spirits. When Louise showed me her dress I was absolutely blown away by how beautiful it was, it was obvious she was going to look stunning in it! The girls then took the short journey to get to the ceremony. Everyone was inside when Louise and her bridesmaids arrived apart from the page boy and flower girls who were patiently waiting outside the church for them.

Ash got ready a home with his best man and groomsmen. I had my second shooter, Paul with me for the day so he went to the lads in the morning to photograph the mischief they got up to before the ceremony. Second shooters are always really great to have if you’re not getting ready together, it’s the only way you’ll see what the other person got up to the morning of the wedding. Ash’s wedding morning was very chilled out, he gave a few gifts to his groomsmen and had a drink with them. The boys travelled to the ceremony by taxi. They arrived at the church really early so they could set up a few last minute bits and it meant they were there to greet all the guests.

The serious part

The ceremony was a beautiful service in a nearby church in Stoke. St John The Evangelist Church is a really light and airy church with plenty of room to move around, which is perfect from a photography perspective. During the ceremony they had several beautiful readings from friends and family. It was such a personal service and so meaningful. The whole ceremony felt very fun and light hearted, with Louise and Ash laughing throughout, as well as all their wedding guests. This always really lovely to see!

Couple Portaits at The Swettenham Arms

The reception was in a marquee at Swettenham Arms. They chose the venue because it has so many options and it has a gorgeous lavender field out the back. I love shooting Swettenham Arms weddings because the grounds are absolutely amazing. It’s not very often I come across something like a lavender field at a wedding venue so when I do I absolutely make the most of it. Louise and Ash had just caught the last of the lavender, this meant it wasn’t completely in full bloom but it was still really effective in the photographs. The Swettenham Arms also has a really nice woodland area out the back, this is part of the Quinta Arboretum. There was so much choice for their couple portraits I was really blown away, especially for an Inn venue. We spent a lot of time shooting their couple portraits, both before and after their wedding breakfast. I’m so thankful to Louise and Ash for giving me such a large amount of time out of their day to use so much of the grounds to capture some beautiful photographs of them.

The Reception at The Swettenham Arms

They had live music in the afternoon, and a DJ in the evening. They decorated the venue with flowers and had a table plan that was centred around different games they like, because they’re the couple’s favourite things. I loved the personal touch with the video game table plan, I love when couples inject their own personal interests into their wedding.

For dinner they had proper wedding grub, which was absolutely delicious. The food at The Swettenham Arms is amazing, they are a restaurant separately as well as being a wedding venue so you know the food is always going to be amazing when this is the case. The first dance involved the wedding party getting on the dancefloor to get the dancing going, and they finished off the evening with everyone being pretty drunk and dancing the night away.

The funniest part of the day was during Louise and Ash’s couple portraits, just laughing with them both at nothing in particular, because it gave their couple portraits a really light-hearted mood which resulted in some really lovely images. I love it when my couples laugh together really easily and this usually makes me laugh as well while I’m shooting.

The couple

Louise wore a beautiful retro styled Pronovias dress and Ash wore a very dapper Ted Baker suit and they looked so awesome. Louise’s hair looked incredible, it really suited the style of the her wedding dress and gave her an overall vintage look.

Louise and Ash’s wedding was so much fun and just the happiest occasion. Here’s their amazing Swettenham Arms wedding!
