Photo of the week – Book Cover

book cover

This weeks photo of the week is me in a blonde wig haha! Some of you may already know that alongside shooting weddings and families I also do book cover photography. Book cover photography works in a similar way to stock image websites like Shutterstock and iStock, publishers buy photographs from stock image websites to use on book covers. I currently sell my work on Arc Angel and I love the creative challenge of making photographs to fit a brief that I decide. With weddings and family shoots I shoot in a very documentary way, photographing what is there and don’t set anything up. With book cover photography I can be even more creative with thinking of a theme I’d like to photograph, experimenting with different shooting and editing techniques and seeing what sells. In my Goals for 2020 blog you may have noticed that I set myself a goal to sell just one book cover photograph this year, I’ve been shooting book covers on and off for about a year now but still haven’t got many images uploaded into my portfolio. I’ve set myself a challenge to shoot 1 thing a day for book covers, this will increase the amount of images in my portfolio and hopefully, as a result will mean I’m more likely to sell an image.

This is one of my favourite shots from this weeks series of book cover photographs. I really liked the vintage feel to this shoot so I changed my editing up a bit to stick with this theme. Finger’s crossed you’ll see this on a book cover at some point in the future! Remember to check back here again next week to see my next photo of the week!
