There are some sessions that stay with you long after you’ve packed your camera away, and Kate and Liam’s maternity session at the Shropshire Petal Fields is absolutely one of them.

I photograph mini sessions at the petal fields every year, and they’re always a joy, but this one came with the most beautiful surprise. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph Kate and Liam before, from their engagement shoot right through to their wedding back in 2019 (how has that much time passed already?!). So when they booked in again, I was already excited to catch up.
What I didn’t realise was that this wasn’t just a couple’s session.
They arrived with their dogs, big smiles and I realised very quickly that Kate was pregnant! I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment, equal parts surprise, delight, and that quiet feeling of “oh wow, this is special.” Being invited back into my clients’ lives as their story unfolds is one of the greatest privileges of this job.
We spent the session wandering through the petal fields, chatting about life since their wedding, what they’d been up to, and how things had shifted over the years. Naturally, the conversation drifted towards what was ahead, the excitement, the unknowns, and the huge life change they were about to step into together.
I absolutely love maternity sessions for this exact reason. Pregnancy is such a fleeting chapter. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, there’s this shared understanding that everything is about to change, and that moment deserves to be remembered. It’s also a time that asks to be honoured. The female body is doing something extraordinary, and portraits are such a powerful way to pause, acknowledge that, and say: this mattered.
Kate and Liam’s session felt relaxed, joyful, and full of anticipation, the kind of session where nothing needs to be forced. Just two people, their dogs, a field full of petals, and a whole new chapter waiting around the corner.
Since then, Kate and Liam have welcomed their beautiful baby into the world, and they invited me back once again to photograph their newborn session. Truly, what an honour. I can’t wait to share those photographs with you very soon.
If you’re expecting and considering a maternity session, whether in the petal fields or somewhere that feels meaningful to you, I’d absolutely love to hear from you. These moments deserve to be held onto.
