How to Prepare for a Personal Branding Photoshoot: A Complete Checklist

So, you’ve booked your personal branding photoshoot—yay! Whether you’re rebranding, launching a new venture, or simply sprucing up your professional image, this is such an exciting step. But now you might be thinking, “What next? How do I prepare?”

Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here’s your complete checklist to help you feel confident, relaxed, and ready to shine.

1. Define Your Brand Story

Before anything else, think about what you want your photos to say about you. Are you fun and creative? Warm and approachable? Sleek and professional? Having a clear idea of your brand’s vibe will help us plan everything from outfits to locations.

Ask yourself:

  • Who am I trying to connect with?
  • What do I want people to feel when they see my photos?
  • Where will I use these images (e.g., website, social media, marketing materials)?

2. Choose Your Outfits

Clothing is such a big part of the story we’re telling. Here are a few tips:

  • Pick 2–3 outfits that make you feel amazing and fit your brand vibe.
  • Avoid bold patterns or logos—they can distract from you.
  • Complement your brand colors where possible.
  • Layer up! Jackets, scarves, or accessories can add variety without a full outfit change.

Pro tip: Make sure everything fits well and is wrinkle-free. Comfortable shoes are a must if we’re shooting outdoors around Shrewsbury!

3. Plan Your Locations

Shrewsbury is packed with gorgeous spots for photos. Think about places that reflect your brand:

  • A cosy coffee shop for a relaxed, approachable vibe.
  • Historic Shrewsbury townscapes for a polished, timeless look.
  • Your workspace to showcase your craft or business.

If you have a favorite location that’s meaningful to you, let me know—we’ll make it part of the shoot!

4. Props and Tools of the Trade

Do you use specific tools in your work? Bring them along! Whether it’s a laptop, camera, paintbrush, or even a coffee mug, props can help tell your story and add a personal touch to the images.

5. Prep Your Look

  • Get a good night’s sleep the night before. You’ll feel (and look) fresher for it!
  • Make sure you consider what you want to get across, think about the colours and anything that is relevant to your brand. I know people who always wear a bow tie or a hat when they’re working so it would be really important that this is included in the shoot.

6. Organize Your Essentials

Here’s a quick list to pack:

  • Your outfit changes and accessories.
  • Props or branding materials.
  • Water and snacks (it’s a shoot, not a sprint!).
  • Any notes or ideas you want to share with me on the day.

7. Relax and Trust the Process

Most importantly, remember this: You don’t need to “perform.” My goal is to make you feel comfortable so we can capture the real you. If you’re feeling nervous, that’s okay! We’ll take our time, have a laugh, and create some amazing photos together.

Ready to Create Magic?

A personal branding photoshoot is about so much more than pretty pictures. It’s about showing the world who you are and what you stand for. So, let’s make it uniquely you. Grab a cuppa, tick off your checklist, and get excited—it’s going to be brilliant!
