How to Find the Right Personal Branding Photographer

Your personal branding photos aren’t just headshots. They’re the first impression, the thing that makes someone stop scrolling and think, yes, I want to work with her. So finding the right photographer matters more than most people realise.

Here’s what I’d look for.

Their portfolio should stop you in your tracks. Not just technically good, it makes you actually feel something. Do the people in their photos look like themselves, or do they look like they’re performing a version of themselves? Authentic is everything in personal branding. You want images that feel lived-in, not like a LinkedIn stock photo.

Make sure they actually shoot personal branding work. A brilliant wedding photographer isn’t automatically the right fit here. Personal branding has its own rhythm, understanding your audience, your story, how you want to make people feel. Look for someone who gets that world, not just someone who’s good with a camera.

Find someone who listens. This one’s underrated. Your photographer should feel less like a hired hand and more like a collaborator. Someone who asks good questions, gets excited about your vision, and makes you feel relaxed enough to actually show up as yourself. Because that’s when the best shots happen.

Read what their clients say. Not just the star rating, the words. Did people feel comfortable? Did they get images they actually use? Did the photographer make the whole thing feel easy? That stuff tells you everything.

Local knowledge is a genuine advantage. If you’re based in Shrewsbury, working with someone who knows the town means you’re not spending half the shoot figuring out locations. The right café, the right light at the right time of day, that local familiarity shows up in the final images.

Shrewsbury has so much character to work with. The right photographer will know how to use it.

If you think we might be a good fit, I’d love to have a chat. No pressure, just a conversation about what you’re building and how I can help you show it.
