We heard about Lisa through a friend who was also a photographer. Straight away we just loved her natural style and friendly, down to earth approach to wedding photography. The people in Lisa’s photos looked relaxed, and like themselves, not staged or awkward and that was exactly what we were after. Lisa was just perfect on the day, helping us to relax and enjoy ourselves, answering any questions we had, and blending into the background. Half the time you wouldn’t have noticed she was there, but when she needed to make herself heard, organise some group shots or give us some tips she was clear and helpful. What can we say about our final pictures? They are honestly, so so stunning. They captured the essence of the day, of love and laughter, and of our personalities. The joy and passion almost jumps off the page and we will treasure them forever. All of our family and friends adore them as well, and they just bring back the best memories.
Hiring Lisa was absolutely one of the top decisions we made when planning our wedding. She was contactable and approachable from the get go, happy to explain everything and answer our many questions, super fun and creative (enabling her couples to get such awesome shots) and on the day was an absolute dream. Becca and Joe got married in June at the unusual Woodend Art Gallery, which is an understated art gallery in Scarborough. They had their ceremony at St Mary’s Church, which is the church Becca has been going to since she was little. It was a beautiful day and I’m so glad they chose me to shoot it!
The excitement before the wedding
Becca got ready at home with her mom and bridesmaids, and the atmosphere was so calm. Becca has such a calming energy, it’s not surprising that her bridal prep was so chilled out. One of my favourite bits of prep was when she had a small meeting with her bridesmaids to make sure everyone knew their roles for the day, she had it all under control. The wedding party then rode a fancy wedding car to get to the ceremony.
The vows
The ceremony was a lovely service at their church in Scarborough. During the ceremony Becca’s mum walked her up the aisle, which was obviously a very proud and moving moment for them all. It was such a personal service and so emotional. Becca and Joe had actually got their friend and vicar to perform the ceremony for them. It wasn’t his church but he was happy to do the ceremony there and I thought that was such a lovely personal touch to their day.
The reception
The reception was in the main room at Woodend Art Gallery. They chose the venue because it was really unique and they just fell in love with it. It was a super chilled out wedding, which I love! I love shooting Woodend Art Gallery weddings because it’s quite an unusual venue and it’s got such a great atmosphere.
They had a drinks reception in the afternoon, and a live band in the evening. The live band was brilliant, all of their guests were up on the dance floor, the atmosphere was absolutely electric. The venue didn’t really need much decoration, what with it being an art gallery so Becca and Joe kept it really simple. I think sometimes it’s very easy to get caught up on the “stuff” surrounding weddings. A lot of it you don’t need and won’t get remembered. What Becca and Joe’s wedding had in absolute abundance was LOVE.
For dinner they had food which guests could go and grab themselves and sit wherever they liked, which was a great way of serving food. I love this way of doing things as it’s much less formal that a proper three course sit down meal and guests can eat as much or little as they like. The first dance involved the wedding party getting on the dancefloor to get the dancing going, and they finished off the evening with everyone on the dance floor partying.
The most memorable part of the day was when we went down to the beach for Becca and Joe’s couple portraits, because Becca and Joe really got into their portraits and Becca really didn’t care about her dress getting a bit (or a lot!) sandy. They also had their cake cutting when they got back to their venue. They had three cakes, a cheese cake, a pork pie cake and a sponge cake. They couldn’t decide which one to cut so they cut them all!
The couple
Becca wore a goregous Maggie Sottero dress and Joe wore a French Connection suit and they looked so absolutely stunning. Becca’s flowers were gorgeous, they were by Hearts and Flowers who are based in Scarborough.
