Eleanor and Martyn got married at the lovely Pendrell Hall, which is a country house wedding venue in Wolverhampton. I met them for the first time in October for their engagement shoot. I love doing engagement shoots with couples before their wedding day, it’s a great chance for us to get to know each other and also means you guys get to have a bit of a practice before the real thing.
Engagement Shoot in Shropshire
I do the majority of my engagement shoots within Shropshire as that’s where I’m based and where I shoot most of my weddings. I have a few spots a use frequently for engagement shoots so if a couple don’t have a specific place in mind that they’d like the shoot I can suggest a few tried and tested areas. For Eleanor and Martyn’s shoot they decided they’d like a woodland area but aren’t too familiar with Shropshire so gave me the task of choosing where to do the shoot. I suggested Apley Woods, as it’s a gorgeous woodland area but also has an open field and a pond so there are a lot of options! Woodland shoots are perfect for autumn as well because the colours are absolutely stunning.
Getting over the nerves
Most of my couples book me because they want a really chilled out wedding and want really natural images. So an engagement shoot can seem like a really scary thing to many of them, and honestly I get it, before I started shooting them I thought they sounded super cheesy and not at all my thing. I’m not going to lie, engagement shoots can be pretty intense, you’ve probably just met me and I’m going to start photographing the two of you cuddling and kissing each other. Trust me though, after your engagement shoot your wedding will feel like an absolute breeze! Most of my couples say that the process of the engagement shoot has really reassured them about having their photograph taken on their wedding day. On your wedding day you’ll have SO much going on I promise you’ll barely notice me, most of the photographs I’ll be taking of you and your guests will be natural, candid shots. And when it comes to doing your couple portraits on your wedding day you’ll be well used to me by then and we’ll know exactly which poses work for you guys and you will know that you’re going to look awesome!
