Abbi & Joe | A Sun-Soaked Woodland Wedding at Wroxeter

Abbi and Joe’s wedding at Woodland at Wroxeter was one of those days that felt completely true to the couple from start to finish. Relaxed, music-led, full of personality and bathed in summer sunshine, it was a celebration that leaned into joy rather than formality, and it suited them perfectly.

Set against the rolling Shropshire countryside with views out towards The Wrekin, Woodland at Wroxeter has a wonderfully rural, slightly wild charm. It has that real country bumpkin feel, earthy, unfussy and full of soul, which is exactly what Abbi and Joe had envisioned for their day.

A Ceremony in the Sunshine

The day unfolded under clear blue skies, making it ideal for an outdoor ceremony surrounded by trees and birdsong. Guests gathered as the sun filtered through the woodland, creating the most beautiful, dappled light. There was a calm, unhurried energy from the very beginning, the kind that instantly puts everyone at ease.

Music is incredibly important to Abbi and Joe, and that threaded its way through every part of the day. As they made their way back down the aisle as newlyweds, guests showered them in clouds of biodegradable petals from Shropshire Petals, a confetti moment that felt every bit as joyful as it looked. After the ceremony, acoustic musician Jade Duncombe played live while everyone mingled and soaked up the sunshine.

Thoughtful Details & Disco Ball Dreams

The styling of the day was a perfect blend of laid-back countryside and playful personality. Disco balls popped up everywhere, twinkling in the sunlight, catching the light inside the tipi, and bringing a subtle party energy to the whole celebration. It was impossible not to smile.

For the wedding breakfast and speeches, guests gathered inside the tipi, where long tables were decorated with vinyl records as centrepieces, a brilliant nod to the couple’s love of music. These personal touches never felt staged; they simply felt them.

Florals by The Flower Stand Shrewsbury complemented the setting beautifully, with natural textures and soft, seasonal blooms that echoed the surrounding meadow and woodland.

Blending Digital & 35mm Film

Abbi and Joe’s gallery is a blend of digital photography and 35mm film, allowing their story to be told with both clarity and character. Film has a way of slowing things down, of noticing texture and light in a slightly different way, and it felt especially fitting for a day so rooted in nature and feeling.

Some of the flowers you’ll spot woven into their images were hand-pressed from the wildflower meadow at Wroxeter itself, preserved from the very landscape where they said their vows. There’s something quietly magical about that: pieces of the place, becoming part of their photographs forever.

The Heirloom Box – Memories You Can Hold

Alongside documenting their day, I also created an Heirloom Box for Abbi and Joe, a small, deeply personal collection of tangible memories gathered as the day unfolded.

Inside their box are pieces that tell the story beyond the photographs: their wedding confetti, a miniature disco ball taken from their name place settings, a ribbon from the marquee décor, hand-pressed wildflowers from the meadow, elements of their invitation and on-the-day stationery, and a selection of printed photographs.

These are the details that might otherwise be swept away at the end of the night, but together they become a physical reminder of how the day felt. A time capsule of sorts. A love letter to a moment in their lives that deserves to be remembered with all the senses.

A Celebration Full of Feeling

Abbi and Joe’s wedding wasn’t about following tradition for tradition’s sake. It was about atmosphere, music, laughter, and creating a day that felt warm, welcoming and deeply personal.

From the sunshine-filled ceremony to the tipi speeches, disco ball sparkle and views across the Shropshire hills, it was a joy to photograph, and one I won’t forget anytime soon.
