Every summer, for a short and very special window of time, the Shropshire Petals confetti fields burst into colour. Open to the public for around ten days each year, these fields are a celebration of seasonality, colour and fleeting beauty, which makes them the perfect setting for relaxed family photography.
Each year I offer one or two days of family mini sessions at Shropshire Petals, and they’re always some of my favourite days of the year. This particular session, with Nikki and Sam, felt especially meaningful.

From Wedding Day to Family of Four
I first met Nikki and Sam when I photographed their wedding back in 2020. Fast forward five years, and it was such a joy to see them again, this time running through the confetti fields with their two boys.
Photographing past wedding couples as they grow their families is one of the quiet privileges of this job. There’s something incredibly special about being invited back into someone’s life at a completely different chapter, and capturing what their world looks like now.
This Shropshire Petals mini session wasn’t just about photos, it was about reconnecting, catching up, and documenting a family exactly as they are in this season.
Summer Family Photography at Shropshire Petals
The confetti fields in summer are full of movement, colour and texture. They encourage kids to explore, parents to slow down, and moments to unfold naturally. It’s not about stiff posing or perfect smiles, it’s about connection, laughter, and being together.
That’s why Shropshire Petals works so beautifully for family mini sessions. In a short amount of time, we can create a collection of images that feel full, rich and completely true to your family.
Why Family Photography Matters Even More to Me Now
Family sessions have always been close to my heart, but they’ve taken on an even deeper meaning since having my own son two years ago.
I now understand, in a very real way, how quickly everything changes. How the small details, the way little hands reach for yours, the way they move, the way they fit into your arms, are constantly shifting. You want to soak it all in, but you also want a way to remember it.
That’s what these sessions are really about. Freezing tiny slices of everyday magic so you can look back and feel exactly how this season of life felt.
Why I No Longer Share Children’s Faces Online
You may notice that I no longer share children’s faces on my website or social media.
This is a decision I made recently, and it comes from a very personal place. I don’t share my own son’s face online, and over time it no longer sat comfortably with me to ask other families if I could share images of their children when I wasn’t doing the same myself.
I’ll be writing a more in-depth blog post about this decision soon, but for now I want families to know this: your children’s privacy matters deeply to me. Their photographs are created for you, for your walls, albums and memories, not for public consumption.
Shropshire Petals Family Photographer
If you’re looking for a Shropshire Petals family photographer, my summer mini sessions are designed to be relaxed, meaningful and completely pressure-free. They’re perfect for families who want natural images full of connection, without a long or overwhelming session.
The confetti fields are only open for a short time each year, which makes these sessions feel even more special, a little summer tradition worth coming back to.
Photographing Nikki and Sam again, five years on from their wedding day, was a reminder of why I love this work so much. Families grow, chapters change, and being able to document that journey is something I never take for granted.
