Some weddings feel extra special—not just because of the setting, but because of the story behind it. Kate and Shaun’s day at The Citadel in Weston-under-Redcastle was one of those truly heartfelt weddings, full of family, joy, and personal touches that made the whole day feel like home.

The ceremony took place at the picturesque St Luke’s Church, just a stone’s throw from The Citadel. It’s a beautiful, peaceful place, and with their two young sons watching on, Kate and Shaun said their vows surrounded by love and support.
Guests were then whisked away to the reception in style via a classic vintage red double-decker bus from Routemaster4Hire—a fun and memorable start to an unforgettable afternoon.
What makes The Citadel so special is not just its beauty—it’s that it was Kate’s childhood home. A place filled with memories, now woven into the beginning of her new chapter with Shaun. The Citadel only hosts a handful of weddings each year, and it’s always an honour to be back as a recommended photographer. The mix of elegant gardens, flowers, and the charming marquee create a warm and welcoming space that feels truly personal.
The reception was held in the marquee in The Citadel’s gardens, surrounded by trees, flowers, and golden June sunshine. Kate’s mum and a friend lovingly created all the floral arrangements using homegrown garden flowers and lush foliage—including rhododendrons and whatever else was in bloom. The result was relaxed, joyful, and completely personal.
One of the most touching details was the confetti was handmade by Kate’s mum using rose petals gathered from the garden the previous summer. It’s small touches like these that really make a wedding, so full of care and intention.
Kate wore a beautiful gown from Dolly Blue Bridal, and Shaun and the groomsmen were dressed by Peter Posh. Hair was styled by A Touch of Glamour Shrewsbury, and makeup was beautifully done by Emma Subbiani (The Powder Room) and Di Shackson Flowers was their wonderful florist.
Instead of a traditional wedding cake, Kate and Shaun opted for a cheese tower from The Cheeseworks in Cheltenham—a huge hit with guests and perfect for a relaxed garden celebration.
Later in the evening, as the sun dipped low and golden hour arrived, we took full advantage of The Citadel’s generous grounds for some truly magical couple portraits. With the gardens in full bloom and that beautiful, warm light, the images from this part of the day are some of my favourites.
The evening finished with live music from The Cave Band, and the garden was full of dancing, laughter, and children playing under the trees.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding full of heart and family, in a place that feels like home, The Citadel is one of the most beautiful and special venues I’ve ever had the privilege to photograph. With just a handful of weddings each year, it stays quiet, private, and deeply personal—ideal for couples who want a day that reflects who they are and what matters most.
And if you’re planning your The Citadel wedding, I’d love to be there to capture every beautiful moment.
