The Wroxeter Summer Wedding – Stef & Gareth

wedding at The Wroxeter Hotel

Stef and Gareth had the most glorious summer wedding at The Wroxeter Hotel in Shropshire. They said their I do’s in my local church, St Peters in Wrockwardine and then nipped over to The Wroxeter to celebrate for the rest of the day. This is the second time I’ve photographed a wedding in Wrockwardine Church, the first one was a couple of years ago. I’ve been in the church many times though, including for my own christening! My parents also got married there so it’s really lovely for me to be able to go back now and photograph other couples weddings there.

Wildflower Meadow at The Wroxeter

One of my favourite areas at The Wroxeter in Summer has to be their wildflower meadow that’s hidden behind the back of the tipi. It makes the most beautiful photographs and because you can’t see it unless you go looking for it, it means that you’ve got a bit of privacy for when we’re doing your couple portraits. We were so lucky with the weather for Stef and Gaz’s day, it was raining a bit when Stef arrived at church and after their ceremony when they came out of church but it really brightened up later on when we were at The Wroxeter. I was so pleased the weather was so lovely because it meant we got to use the grounds of The Wroxeter to their full potential.

During their wedding breakfast I was sat on a table with some of Stef’s current and old work friends. I love sitting with the guests during the wedding breakfast as it’s really lovely to get to know them as well as the couple. There were so many laughs during dinner, including a cork going flying from a prosecco bottle,  I knew the evening reception was going to be brilliant! During their engagement shoot they told me how wild some of their friends are, I love a full dancefloor so I was really looking forward to photographing their guests having a great time dancing.

When Stef and Gaz first enquired I dropped into the conversation with Luke who I’d had an enquiry from because they lived in the same village as me. He then told me that he knew Stef from when they were both at sixth form, it’s such a small world! During their wedding planning I got to know Gaz and Stef, including doing an gorgeous summer evening engagement shoot with them in Wrockwardine village, it was so lovely to watch them tie the knot. I become really invested in all my couples, I always like to get to know them before the day, which is what makes an engagement shoot so brilliant. By the time their wedding day comes round I want them to see me more like an old friend rather than a photographer. Stef and Gaz really got into the spirit of treating me like a friend, including plying me with gin before we did their engagement shoot! They even invited Luke to their evening reception so we could both join in with the party after I’d finished shooting. This is the only time I have ever stayed at a wedding to have a few drinks, by the time I was two drinks down I was tearing up the dancefloor with Luke, who was supposed to be giving me a lift home. In the end we stayed until the very end of their wedding, did shots with them and fell into a taxi around 1 or 2am. Luke told me the next day that when he arrived Stef had gone over to him to tell him to make sure I relaxed and partied with them, they definitely accomplished what they set out to do, although I didn’t feel very clever the next day it was totally worth it!

Take a peek at their full day below. If you’re planning a wedding at The Wroxeter then get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!
