Family Shoot – Samuel’s First Birthday

Relaxed family shoots are one of my favourite things to do. I was lucky enough to photograph this beautiful family for Samuel’s first birthday. We began by having a walk around the beautiful Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, they had some lovely greenhouses for some indoor shots however, as it was such a nice day we spent most of the time there outside. Inside one of the greenhouses were some beautiful varieties of butterflies, it was wonderful seeing Samuel’s reaction to these. Slightly later on we stopped for a while and Lucia, Peter and Samuel had a play with blowing bubbles and also reading one of Samuel’s favourite books. While they were sat down Samuel came over to one of my cameras that I’d placed on the ground and began to have a play, future photographer in the making!

When we’d finished having a walk round the botanical gardens we made our way back to their home. We were met there by Samuel’s Godparents who had set up a beautiful picnic in the garden! There was bunting, cookie monster cupcakes, flowers, sandwiches, balloons, cups of tea and a bubble machine! I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate a first birthday (or any birthday for that matter!). Samuel spent the next few hours celebrating his first birthday by opening cards and presents. Later on we went for a walk to a field near their house where we were able to get some lovely relaxed, natural portraits.

I absolutely adored photographing this day, it was so evident that there is so much love for this incredibly cute tiny human being, it was wonderful that I had the chance to capture this. I would love to do more family shoots in this relaxed manner. It doesn’t have to be for a special occasion such as a birthday, it could simply be because you’d all just like some lovely photographs of all of you together.
