So that’s it, the first year of the month is officially over! January is traditionally a pretty tough month but to be honest I’ve had a really lovely January and I’ve felt that it’s gone really fast! This month consisted of 1 family shoot, 6 books, 3 cinema visits, 3 bookings, making bread, learning Charleston, my birthday and the Iscoyd Park open weekend, not a bad way to spend 31 days! In addition to my photo of the week feature on the blog I’m also going to be sharing monthly round up blog posts, a bit like a diary entry to keep track of everything I do in the year, share weddings and other shoots and also my personal work too.
January is always a busy month for wedding enquiries and bookings and this year has been no exception. I booked 3 2020 weddings this month, meaning I’ve only booking in 6 more weddings into this years calendar! I’m currently speaking to a few people about a handful of remaining dates too so please get in touch soon to secure your booking, I absolutely hate having to turn people away because I’m fully booked.
I did the cutest family shoot in the middle of the month for Chloe and Kieran’s brand new tiny human, Rosa-Rae. I shot Chloe and Kieran’s wedding and maternity shoot so I was over the moon to be photographing them again with their new addition. Family shoots are something I’m going to be offering more of in 2020 on-wards so please get in touch if you’d like to book in for one!
The Iscoyd Park open weekend happened to fall over my birthday weekend this year so I dragged Luke along with me on the Saturday to keep me company and help me set up. It was lovely to meet so many of you and hear about the plans you’ve got so far for your wedding. I still managed to squeeze in opening presents, seeing family, going out for food and a glass of wine into my birthday so it was a really successful weekend!
Although I only had one shoot this month I’ve been getting creative in other ways. 2020 means a new Good Reads challenge! This year I’ve challenged myself to read 60 books and I’ve got off to a strong start, I’ve read 6 books in January. You can keep up to date with what I’m reading on Instagram, I love giving book recommendations too so please just drop me a message if you want to know my fave books (I can literally talk about books all day). My favourite 2 books this month were Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel and Hashtag Authentic by Sara Tasker. I read Hashtag Authentic is one sitting yesterday and ohhhh boy did I find it inspirational. I love shooting for work but I don’t shoot personal work anywhere near as often as I would like to. Sara’s book has given me some real inspiration to start shooting again for myself, purely for fun. I’ll be sharing some of the results here and on Instagram. I started today by snapping a few photographs of my morning coffee in a mug that one of my wonderful couples, Verity and Dave gifted me after I shot their maternity shoot in December.
In the cinema I saw Bombshell and Jojo Rabbit and highly recommend both. Jojo Rabbit in particular was absolutely incredible and I’m going to be telling everyone who will listen to go and see it! I started baking bread! I was really inspired by my friend Lucy who bakes lots of beautiful loaves and posts them on her Instagram story, I decided to give it a go this month and fell in love. I didn’t get any photos this time but I’ll definitely be making some more in February. And I started going to a beginners dance class to learn the Charleston, I have no coordination but it’s a lot of fun!
I’ve been spending today prepping my kit for tomorrow’s wedding at Iscoyd Park. It’s my first wedding of the year so I’m super excited to get back into the swing of things! Make sure you pop by again next month to see more!
