Brown Moss Nature Reserve Engagement Shoot – Danielle & Colm

brown moss nature reserve engagement shoot

Danielle and Colm had their engagement shoot the week before their wedding at Brown Moss Nature Reserve in Whitchurch. I’d never shot at Brown Moss Nature Reserve before but we chose it because it was very close to their wedding venue, Iscoyd Park. This was my first time meeting Danielle and Colm, I already knew from our emails that we were going to get on brilliantly.

With engagement shoots I always start off by shooting a little bit further away to give you both a bit of time to get used to me and my camera. I don’t like to direct my couples too much as I really want to avoid the photographs looking really posed. My main aim for an engagement shoot is simply to get my couples to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Unless you’re a model it’s always a bit weird being photographed, I don’t like being in front of the camera myself! My directions always just consist of asking the couple to have a cuddle and look at each other. While I’m shooting I keep talking to them (usually about how much of a weirdo I look shooting through bushes). Danielle and Colm absolutely aced it! They were so comfortable in front of the camera and were really happy to have a good laugh with each other, which to me is absolutely key to creating beautiful images. My favourite thing in the world to photograph is people in love laughing.

While we were walking around Brown Moss we had time to have a good chat about the plans for their day and their timeline. I tend to do engagement shoots about 1-3 months before wedding days so my couples have a clear idea of their plans and we can have a good chat through how I will work on their day.

During the engagement shoot we came across lots of muddy dogs being walked, they were very excited to see us and really wanted to jump up on Danielle’s pristine white jeans! Thankfully we managed to keep them away from her so we didn’t have to take all the photos from the waist upwards! Towards the end of the shoot it started drizzling with rain so we decided to make our way back to the cars. Thanks so Colm’s incredible sense of direction we made it back, I was fully lost and Google Maps definitely wasn’t helping!

I shot their awesome wedding at Iscoyd Park the week after their engagement shoot and it was so much fun! I can’t wait to share it on the blog here soon. In the meantime, here’s Danielle and Colm’s awesome engagement shoot.
