“We just wanted to take the time to say how glad and grateful we are that you were our wedding photographer. Neither James or I are particularly big fans of having our photos taken, so standing for hours posing certainly wouldn’t have been our thing! You made us feel sooo relaxed and the couple and family photographs seemed to take just seconds so we really could enjoy spending time with our friends and family (which I’ve so often heard isn’t the case!). All the photos are absolutely beautiful, especially the way you’ve managed to capture the light in them. It has been such a pleasure to look through them and getting to see all the little moments that we didn’t see on the day. The whole day was such a team effort and it wouldn’t have been the same without everyone who was involved, and that includes you, you were not only a photographer on the day but a friend and a massive support, so we wanted to send you a huge thank you!!”
Charlie and James had the most wonderful relaxed DIY wedding at Charlie’s parents home farm in Bridgnorth. I always love shooting DIY weddings because they’re so personalised and unique. Charlie and James took DIY to the extreme for their wedding day, even going so far as making the tables and benches for their wedding breakfast! I first met them for their engagement shoot a couple of months before their wedding and we did their engagement shoot at the farm too. It was lovely to see their progress and also gave me an opportunity to have a look round before their day so I could plan a few spots I could take them for their couple portraits.
I was blown away with what they had done with the barn! There was handmade bunting, a handmade bar, tables and benches, favours and lighting. To top it all off, in the process of planning their wedding Charlie began training to be a gardener and florist so she also did all of the flowers for the day. Charlie has now set up her own business called Ridges Farm Flowers to offer wedding floristry, I was so impressed with Charlie’s flowers I’ve popped her on my recommended suppliers list!
Outdoor Ceremony at Ye Olde Punchbowl Country Inn
As the barn was in their garden, it isn’t licensed to hold civil ceremonies. So for this part of the day Charlie and James popped over to the nearest place they could legally get hitched, which happened to be the very beautiful Ye Olde Punchbowl Country Inn. They were lucky enough to have the most glorious summer weather so their ceremony was held outside. The light here was beautiful and it was such a perfect setting for their relaxed day.
After they had said their I do’s they jumped into James’ landrover to head back to their reception at the farm. When we got there we decided it was time for confetti and it has to be one of the longest confetti lines I’ve ever had! One of my favourite parts of the day had to be their first dance. They did it during golden hour and there was the most gorgeous light streaming in through the barn doors, the result has to be some of my all time favourite first dance shots!
While I was at their wedding I tried to convince Charlie’s parents to make their barn a fully fledged wedding venue but they unfortunately didn’t seem too sold on the idea haha! I had the absolute best time shooting Charlie and James’ wedding!
If you’re planning a DIY wedding then get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!
