Elly and Liam got married at Westwood College in Leek, Staffordshire all the way back in 2015, it’s only taken me two years to finally blog it! I was second shooting with the brilliant Matt Bowen, I don’t get to second shoot quite as often anymore due to the fact that I’m very often shooting my own weddings, however when I get chance I love it! Second shooting is a great opportunity to test out techniques. When you’re a primary shooter there are a lot of shots you absolutely have to get, so there isn’t chance to play around too much with settings. Second shooting offers a great chance to test out some techniques that I’ve wanted to try so I always try and do a bit each season!
Westwood College is such a beautiful venue for a wedding ceremony, it’s still in use as a college however you wouldn’t be able to tell as it is so grand! There are two parts to Westwood College, the ‘Old Hall’ and the ‘New Hall’, Elly and Liam had their ceremony in the Old Hall and it was absolutely stunning.
My favourite aspect about their wedding has to be the outfits. Liam was looking incredibly dapper in a blue suit and Elly and her bridesmaids dresses were amazing, and from my favourite online retailer, Asos. I loved Elly’s sister’s bridesmaids dress so much that I actually bought it myself!
Their reception took place at The White Chimneys in Leek, Elly and Liam’s wedding is the last wedding that they ever did, which is such a shame because it really is a beautiful venue! They had outdoor games, including big jenga, juggling pins and hula hoops to name a few, it worked brilliantly and suited the relaxed atmosphere that Elly and Liam set out to have for their big day.
Undeniably the best part of the day was when a few members of Elly and Liam’s family surprised them both by making them a song. It turned out that they’d all been meeting in secret before the wedding, had been learning the ukulele and had written them a song. It was absolutely brilliant, even though this wedding was so long ago now and I’ve been to a fair few since this part of their day still sticks in my mind, I felt so privileged that I could be there to photograph that.
After the food had been eaten and the speeches had been said it was time for the party. The band were brilliant and incredibly energetic, making the dancefloor pretty packed! Elly and Liam chose not to have a first dance as such, but just wanted a big party, and there certainly was one!
